My doctor recently told me that I'm not getting enough vitamin D, and that I need to take a supplement. Vitamin D is one of the ones that it's possible to overdose on, so I looked it up. Overdosing on D, while possible, isn't that easy to do. And in fact, many people actually have a deficiency.

Yes! They don't call it the "Sunshine Vitamin" for nothing. But, they also say, that the human body's capacity to make vitamin D from sunshine, diminishes with age. So supplements would probably still be advisable for some people.
I would suggest, for anyone having their cholesterol levels checked, that they ask their doctor to check their vitamin D levels too. That's how I found out about mine.
