For the koeksisters:

* 1½ to 3 cups (187-375g) all-purpose flour
* 1 cup (145g) brown sugar
* 1½ tsp (7g) baking powder
* 2 tsp (4.5g) ground cinnamon
* 1 tsp (2g) ground cloves
* 1 tsp (2g) ground nutmeg
* ½ tsp (1g) allspice
* ½ cup (1 stick) butter
* 4 eggs
* vegetable oil for frying

For the syrup:

* 1½ pounds (680g) granulated sugar
* 1 pint (.5L) water
* ½ tbsp (3.5g) cinnamon
