Pelosi does Syria; no legal consequences

There has been a lot of talk on conservative blogs about Pelosi violating the Logan Act by her visit to Syria. They say she broke the law.

But did she? In an previous post, I maintained that Pelosi is a hippy and a socialist at heart, and that means she will do whatever she likes, flouting any laws and traditions, as long as she could get away with it. In this instance, clearly she can do just that. How can that be?

Michael Dorf has an excellent post, outlining four reason as to why, legally, Pelosi will get away with it:

Did Speaker Pelosi Violate the Logan Act?

Prosectuing the Speaker for this would be very tricky, and highly unlikely. Surely she knows this too. There may indeed be consequences to Pelosi for her actions, but they won't be legal ones.

However if Pelosi and the Democrats continue pursuing a separate foreign policy, there will indeed be consequences for us all.
